Case Study: Flush Brush
In 2019, FlushBrush was pitched on Dragon’s Den, securing a £50,000 investment from Sara Davis. It then went on to crowdfund over £350k of pre-order investment.
Our client Tom Keen had only one month to finalise his prototype before filming in the Den. The race to complete the project was successful thanks to the hard work and dedication of our award winning design team and prototyping capabilities.
Thanks to this, the product idea received full investment – demonstrating how a good quality, working prototype can help inventors succeed in Dragons’ Den.

I sought the help of my wonderful design team, Idea Reality. They really understood and believed in the concept from the beginning, and together we began working on ways to make the idea work reliably… together with Idea Reality, we improved the design through a number of iterations, eventually finding a much smaller and neater head and cradle design.

Idea Reality can help you develop your idea and prepare your application for Dragon’s Den

Identify Market Opportunity
If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve identified a gap in the market and have a product idea to fill it—that’s the first step. Shows like Dragon’s Den look for unique, market-ready inventions with strong potential for success and returns.
To prepare for Dragon’s Den, it is important to have a clear understanding of the market: its size, potential, and competition. Knowing your Unique Selling Points (USPs) and how your product solves real problems is crucial. A relatable idea is more likely to grab the Dragons’ attention.
At Idea Reality, we offer a free idea review and a hands-on workshop to refine your concept, identify market opportunities, and strengthen your pitch ready for Dragon’s Den.
Develop an Innovative Design
Our design process is uniquely tailored to your project, this help us ensures that innovation is built into your design, even from the very beginning. While we aim for our concepts to be grounded in production feasibility, they also aim to deliver innovative, creative takes on your product idea. As we refine, engineer, and prototype the 3D design, it’s important to maintain a focus on innovation, ensuring your product’s Unique Selling Points (USPs) are effectively realised to meet the needs of the end user.

Prove the Design
Proving your design’s features through prototyping is a key step in the development process. By creating models to validate various aspects of the product, we can refine and enhance your product’s features, ensuring they are ready for presentation. A well-developed, high-quality prototype, production sample, or production-ready unit is essential to showcase your idea’s potential and help the Dragons fully understand your idea.
File for a Patent
Dragons often ask contestants if their designs are protected. This makes IP protection a key consideration, especially for particularly unique and valuable ideas. While patenting may not be necessary for every product, patents are very important for proprietary designs. It’s usually better to file later in the design process, as products often change during prototyping. Filing too early can be premature if updates occur later on.
At Idea Reality, we will help to guide you on IP protection and connect you with trusted patent attorneys to help protect your design in multiple countries. At an earlier stage, a market search can identify similar designs, which our partner lawyers can assist with as well. Rest assured, your ideas remain fully protected under our NDA throughout the design process.

Know Your Numbers
Understanding your numbers is an important part of pitching on Dragon’s Den and is often where many inventors stumble on the show. The stages outlined above provide a strong foundation to help you understand your market, however it’s also equally important to have a clear strategy for how your product will reach the target user. Key figures like sales volumes, gross and net profits, and, most importantly, how much investment you’re seeking and the stake you’re offering in return are essential to your pitch. Investors are drawn to entrepreneurs who demonstrate a deep understanding of their business, including profit margins and expenses. This knowledge helps to demonstrate to the Dragons that you’re prepared and capable of scaling your product and business successfully.
